Blanche Auzello

French-American resistance fighter

Blanche Auzello was a French-American woman who led a multifaceted life, initially pursuing a career in the film industry. She began acting in silent films in the United States, later relocating to Paris with her friend and fellow actor, Pearl White. It was in Paris that she met and married Claude Auzello, who would eventually become the manager of the prestigious Hôtel Ritz Paris. Blanche Auzello played an active role in managing the hotel alongside her husband.

Beyond her professional life, Auzello is also notable for her bravery during World War II. She actively supported the French Resistance by relaying messages, demonstrating her commitment to the cause despite the significant risks involved. Her involvement in the resistance led to her imprisonment and interrogation at the Fresnes Prison. Tragically, her life came to a violent end in 1969, when her husband shot her in a murder-suicide. Through her varied experiences and courageous actions, Blanche Auzello left an enduring mark on both the film industry and the history of the French Resistance.
