Yaakov ben Yakar

Yaakov ben Yakar was a prominent German rabbi who lived from 990 to 1064. As a Talmudist, he played a significant role in the development of Jewish scholarship during the 11th century. His education was rooted in the teachings of Gershom ben Judah, a renowned figure in Mainz, where Yaakov ben Yakar was a pupil.

He is particularly recognized as the teacher of Rashi, a distinguished figure in Jewish scholarship. Rashi referred to Yaakov ben Yakar with great respect, addressing him as "Mori HaZaken," which reflects the high esteem in which he was held.
