David Mirkin

David Mirkin is a multifaceted American film and television professional, with expertise in writing, directing, and producing. Born in Philadelphia, Mirkin initially pursued a career in electrical engineering but later shifted his focus to film studies at Loyola Marymount University. Following his graduation, he began his career as a stand-up comedian before transitioning into television writing. His early work included writing for popular sitcoms such as Three's Company, It's Garry Shandling's Show, and The Larry Sanders Show.

Mirkin's career progressed as he took on more prominent roles, including serving as showrunner for the series Newhart. He also ventured into creating his own shows, including the 1990 series Get a Life, starring Chris Elliott, which ran for two seasons despite facing opposition from some Fox network executives due to its unconventional humor.
