Ezekiel Judah was a prominent Baghdadi-Jewish businessman and communal leader, active in the 19th century. Born in 1800, he was a multifaceted individual who excelled in various fields, including trade and Jewish scholarship. As a trader, he dealt in luxury goods such as indigo, muslin, and silk, which facilitated his rise to prominence in the business world.
Judah's impact extended beyond the business realm, as he was also a devoted philanthropist and Talmudist. He migrated to India, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the Baghdadi Jewish community in Kolkata. One of his notable achievements was the establishment of the city's first synagogues, which served as a foundation for the community's spiritual growth. Through his leadership and philanthropic efforts, Ezekiel Judah left a lasting legacy, passing away in 1860.
