Frans Weisz was a renowned Dutch film director, active in the industry for over six decades. Born in 1938, Weisz embarked on his directing career in 1964, going on to helm more than 30 films throughout his lifetime. His prolific output showcased his dedication to his craft, as he continued to produce notable works until his passing in 2025.

Weisz's films garnered international recognition, with several of his works being showcased at prestigious film festivals. Notably, his 1975 film Red Sien was selected for the 9th Moscow International Film Festival, while his 1988 film Havinck was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, his 1993 film The Betrayed was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival, further solidifying his reputation as a talented filmmaker on the global stage.
