Lance J. Sussman

Lance J. Sussman is a historian specializing in American Jewish History, born in 1954. He has had a distinguished career as a college professor and has held various leadership positions, including Chair of the Board of Governors of Gratz College in Melrose Park, Pennsylvania. Sussman has also served as a senior rabbi at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, a position he held until summer 2022, after which he became emeritus.

As a prolific author and editor, Sussman has made significant contributions to the field of American Jewish History. His notable works include "Isaac Leeser and the Making of American Judaism" (1995) and "Sharing Sacred Moments" (1999). He has also co-edited several books, including "Reform Judaism in America: A Biographical Dictionary and Sourcebook" (1993) and "New Essays in American Jewish History" (2009). In addition to his historical writings, Sussman has published articles on the intersection of Judaism and art since 2010, further expanding his scholarly output.
