Moses ben Kalonymus

11th-century Italian liturgical poet

Moses ben Kalonymus was a prominent liturgical poet of the 10th century, hailing from northern Italy. He later immigrated to Mainz, where his work continued to flourish. As a paytan, Moses ben Kalonymus made significant contributions to the realm of Jewish liturgy, leaving an enduring legacy in the field.

Moses ben Kalonymus's piyyutim, or liturgical poems, were notably influenced by the traditions of the Land of Israel. One of his most celebrated compositions is believed to be the piyyut "Eimat Noratekha", which is recited on the seventh day of Passover, known as Shevi'i shel Pesach. This ancient tradition has been passed down, solidifying his place in the history of Jewish liturgical poetry.
